The Blood and Hair Formation

Hair is a protein fibre made up of 21 amino acids – this protein fibre is called KERATIN. Keratin is formed in and grows from indentations in the skin called HAIR FOLLICLES. From each follicle grows one hair.

At the very base of every hair follicle is a papilla. Blood vessels (capillaries) enter the papilla which creates the beginning of hair growth.

The bodies circulation system is responsible for transporting blood to every part of our body

Blood is the medium by which oxygen and nourishment are carried to the cells and waste material collected and secreted

The components of hair, Amino Acids are carried via the blood as are the glandular secretions which regulate the correct formation of hair as well as every other tissue and organ.

Human hair has a growth cycle that includes three stages: anagen (active growth phase), catagen (transitional phase) and telogen (resting phase). Shedding of the hair only occurs once the next growth cycle (anagen) begins and a new hair shaft starts to emerge.

The normal hair loss rate is fifty to eighty strands a day. If the loss rate exceeds one hundred strands per day, it signifies increased hair shedding and is considered “Hair-loss”.
